Five Serbia cities among 10 European cities of future

BELGRADE - The magazine fDi Intelligence has included 5 Serbian cities in its list of top 10 European cities and regions of the future, and it also presented officials of those cities with awards in Cannes, France.

The awards were given out to Zajecar, Zrenjanin, Sremska Mitrovica, Ruma and Vranje. They were picked out of a pool of 468 cities in Europe.

A team of experts of fDi Intelligence, which is a division of Financial Times, evaluated over 6 months the cities' success in attracting foreign investments, and the chief criteria during selection were: the economic potential, human resources, cost effectiveness, quality of life, infrastructure and business environment.

The award European Cities and Regions of the Future is given to the regions, towns and cities in Europe deemed most successful in attracting foreign investors, and the officials of the five Serbian cities received them in Cannes on March 12, according ot the websites of the five cities.

Zrenjanin was included because of its investment environment and attitude towards investors, while Vranje was chosen for its strategy for attracting investments and cost effectiveness.

Sremska Mitrovica was picked for the second time for cost effectiveness. It was listed as third in the European regions group and ninth in the European micro cities group for 2014-2015.

Ruma got the award in the cost effectiveness category, while Zajecar took 6th place in the same category and will be able to use the logo of this prestigious award in its promotional activities for a year.

Besides the Serbian cities, other winners include Stip and Veles from Macedonia and three Latvian cities, Liepaja, Ventspils and Jelgava.
