Dacic: We promise safe path to EU

BELGRADE - Leader of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) Ivica Dacic stated on Sunday that the coalition headed by him will guarantee a safe continuation of the EU path in the early parliamentary elections, as well as reforms in a 'human form' and laws which serve the interests of employees and not tycoons.

In the early parliamentary elections scheduled for March 16, Dacic will head the coalition between SPS, Party of United Pensioners of Serbia (PUPS) and United Serbia (JS).

The leaders of all three parties promised at the electoral convention in the Belgrade Arena that they will fight to preserve Serbia as a country of social justice and to preserve the level of employees' rights by adoption of anti-European laws.

Speaking about Kosovo-Metohija, Dacic underscored that he did not participate in the negotiations in Brussels in order to help Kosovo Prime Minister Hasim Taci who was supposed to be arrested for 'what (crimes) he did against Serbs' and that instead he took part in the talks because a responsible attitude toward the government and its citizens calls for brave decisions.

Commenting on the arrest of Oliver Ivanovic as one of the leaders of northern Kosovo Serbs, the outgoing prime minister said that he received information from Ivanovic's wife that Ivanovic is placed in the same cell with an ethnic Albanian.

Ivanovic's defence team asked that the defendant be released pending trial or to be at least transferred to the northern Kosovska Mitrovica detention unit which is home to Serb majority population as he cannot even take a walk outside his detention unit because of security reasons, but the EULEX judge in Pristina denied this request.
