Lyaskovets Shooter’s Mother in Custody

The 75-year old mother of the man who shot and killed a policeman in Bulgaria’s Lyaskovets on Friday has been detained.

Petko Petkov’s mother in in custody for 24 hours and could face charges for illegal possession of firearms.

Petkov, 53, is believed to be mentally unstable, and has been barricaded in his mother’s home in Lyaskovets since 2010. On Friday, he killed a policeman and wounded 3 more during a shootout.

The man was eventually neutralized, and he’s currently in the Veliko Tarnovo hospital with a danger to his life.

Authorities are questioning the mother of the shooter, who they claim “had attempted to mislead the police” during Friday’s operation, Vesti.bg reports.
