Serbia-Russia business expo, forum open in Belgrade

BELGRADE - The first Serbia-Russia business expo and the first Belgrade business forum were opened in Belgrade on Wednesday with participation of 87 Russian and 100 Serbian companies.

The expo, which is organized in Hotel Metropol Palace, brings together companies from the sectors of traffic, energy, medical equipment and agriculture.

Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Chepurin conveyed the greetings of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and read his letter to the participants and guests of the forum.

This forum reflects a common tendency of the two countries' businessmen to use the possibilities of strengthening the cooperation in the trade-economic and investment spheres, Lvrov said.

A firm basis for the development of the cooperation is the Declaration on Strategic Partnership between Serbia and Russia, which was signed by Presidents Vladimir Putin and Tomislav Nikolic in Moscow on May 24, 2013.

Today, large projects are run in the fields of energy, traffic and banking, while there are good conditions for fostering cooperation in the spheres of industry, agriculture, health protection, tourism and improvement of contacts between regions.

Serbian Minister of Natural Resources, Mining and Spatial Planning Milan Bacevic said that the signing of the Declaration on Strategic Partnership has opened the door to fostering good relations, adding that the political ties between Serbia and Russia are at a higher level than their economic relations.

He expressed hope that it will not be long before the levels of these relations become equal.
