Tadic and Canak favor education and health-care reforms

SUBOTICA - The leaders of a coalition gathered around the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina (LSV) and the New Democratic Party (NDS), Nenad Canak and Boris Tadic respectively, have said after a convention in Subotica that reforms in the education and health-care systems in Serbia are crucial to the development of the country, adding that Serbian citizens fear that their children will live in poverty.

For every third child in Serbia, there is a risk that they will live in poverty and it is one of the worst fears of the Serbian citizens, said NDS leader Boris Tadic, adding that for this to change, it is necessary to carry out reforms focusing on changes to the health-care system and education.

Tadic, who is a former Serbian president, also said that the current opposition does not deserve trust and during its term, the outgoing government has neither designed nor built a single kilometer of new highway, nor has it generated a single new megawatt of power in power plants, nor opened a single new job.

The NDS leader said that around EUR 600 million of foreign investment, intended for recapitalization, has been attracted during the current government’s tenure, while EUR 2.2 billion was brought in during his own presidential tenure, which, he said, was the biggest amount of money in the region of southeastern Europe at the time.

When it comes to the fight against corruption, Tadic acknowledged that there has been some progress, but nothing substantial has been achieved, since in his view, fight against corruption means combating poverty.
