Vucic: I live to achieve result for Serbia

BELGRADE - Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) leader Aleksandar Vucic expects his party to win more than 40 percent of the votes in the upcoming elections, but says that the figure itself is not important.

What matters is what one can achieve after the elections, Vucic told the Belgrade daily Blic.

"I live to achieve a result for Serbia, for people to see it, and for those who do not like me personally to say that they are pleased that the loan from the United Arab Emirates will save the country more than EUR 300 million," the paper quoted Vucic on Friday as saying.

Asked about coalition partners after the elections, Vucic said that he is not thinking about that, but that it is clear who is not going to be a coalition partner.

"Boris Tadic has surprised me by saying that Belgrade on Water is an electoral manipulation. Tadic knows me, he should know who the people we are working with are, and he knows how important such a project is for Serbia," Vucic said.

If the SNS gets the majority of the votes, the new government will be formed much sooner than the previous one, he announced.

Asked whether social unrest is possible in Serbia, the SNS leader said that it is always a possibility when people see dishonesty and corruption.

"I am doing all I can, those who can do more should do so. I do not steal, I do not rob, I have not become richer. Unlike those who are calling for the Ukrainian scenario, I do not live in villas or mansions," Vucic said.

Vucic said that, should he become prime minister, he will devote the most attention to legislative reform to create a better business environment.
