Kosovo key condition for Germany

BERLIN -- Foreign policy spokesman for the ruling German CDU/ CSU Philipp Missfelder has said that "the right way for Serbia is toward the EU."

Missfelder commented on parliamentary elections to say the SNS victory was "a significant step forward for Serbia, that has many challenges ahead."

This politician from the ranks of the CDU noted that now the plan of negotiations of Serbia with Kosovo must be implemented - which should eventually lead to the recognition of Kosovo by Belgrade.

"From our perspective the right way for Serbia is to continue further toward the EU with the SNS and Aleksandar Vučić. A precondition for that are negotiations with Kosovo. In April last year an agreement was signed that eventually should lead to the recognition of Kosovo, and it must now continue to be implemented," said a statement issued by Missfelder.

It indicates that Serbia "has a very large state apparatus, and a large number of state-owned companies," and that "bureaucratic structures are too large and the educational system obsolete."

"The conservative SNS announced that it will use all its powers to combat corruption and unemployment. Possible prime minister Aleksandar Vučić said he will emphasize precisely that so that in the coming years he can accelerate the development of the Serbian economy and society and make them more efficient."

"The parliamentary group of the CDU/CSU in the Bundestag supports Serbia in these efforts," said the party official.
