USA to continue funding Serbian police

BELGRADE- Douglass Madden, the new director of the International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP) of the U.S. Department of Justice, met with the officials of the Serbian Interior Ministry (MUP) on Monday and announced financial support to new projects aimed at education and training of members of the Serbian police.

Describing the cooperation established as very good, the new director of ICITAP said that he will advocate for the funding of new projects intended for the Serbian police, the Ministry states in a release.

Madden emphasized that, as part of cooperation with the United States European Command (EUCOM), funding arrangements are being made for two projects - one aimed to equip and establish operational analysis departments in 16 police stations of the Police Directorate of Belgrade, and the other aimed to organize a training program for the discovering of illegal drug laboratories.

MUP state secretary Vladimir Bozovic thanked ICITAP for its assistance in professional education and training of the Serbian police officers.

Bozovic pointed to the upcoming changes related to the Ministry - the adoption of a new law on police, a new job classification, as well as transformation of the police education system and formation of a police university.

Head of the Criminal Police Directorate (UKP) Rodoljub Milovic thanked ICITAP for the support extended so far, emphasizing in particular its assistance with the establishment of operation analysis departments within UKP based on the American model.
