"What's good for Serbia is good for Russia"

BELGRADE -- Russian Ambassador in Serbia Aleksandr Chepurin expressed the expectation that "the Serbian government would realize what Serbia needs most."

This is primarily in terms of economic development, he told Tanjug late on Sunday, commenting on the results of parliamentary elections.

"Serbia is very close to Russia and we are on a path which calls for fast economic development, fight against corruption, progress, improvement of living standards for citizens and good relations between Serbia and Russia," Chepurin said.

The diplomat "expressed the hope that forces and parties which maintain a friendly attitude toward Russia would assume power," Tanjug reported.

"What is good for Serbia is good for Russia as well," Chepurin said and added that Russia hopes that the new government would act to the best interests of Serbia, while Russia will try to provide assistance in the areas of mutual interest for both sides so as to preserve friendship.
