Brussels welcomes Saric's arrest

BRUSSELS - The European Commission (EC) welcomes the arrest of Darko Saric, and expects an efficient trial in line with the European standards, it was released in Brussels on Tuesday.

We welcome the arrest of Saric, alleged organized crime kingpin, based on the indictment by the Special Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade charging him with drug trafficking in 2009, reads the statement by the EC press service.

This has confirmed Serbia's readiness to contribute to the fight against international drug trafficking groups, which was assessed positively in the report on progress in 2013, the statement reads.

The EC particularly commended the fact that the arrest was carried out in a joint operation of the Serbian and Montenegrin police.

Now we expect this case to be prosecuted efficiently in line with the European standards, the statement said.
