Bulgarian DefMin to Impose Penalties over Border Fence

Bulgaria's Defense Minister Angel Naydenov has decided to impose penalties on nine of his ministry's personnel.

The move is related to the series of miscalculations on the expenses for the construction of a border fence between Bulgaria and Turkey, Dariknews.bg reports.

Earlier this week, a report prepared by an inspectorate at Bulgaria's Council of Ministers confirmed allegations that the Defense Ministry had overwritten some of the costs, which made the final price soar by BGN 4 B - from BGN 5.1 to 9 B, VAT included.

Generals, colonels and other high-ranking officers are among those to be punished. Naydenov explained his decision by asserting he did not want the army's reputation to be tarnished.
