Japan donates EUR 323,000 for environmental projects

BELGRADE - The Japanese government has donated around EUR 323,000 for implementation of various environmental protection projects to public utility enterprises (PUEs) in four Serbian municipalities.

The agreements on the donation were signed at the Serbian government on Thursday by Japanese Ambassador to Serbia Masafumi Kuroki and head of the Trgoviste municipality Nenad Krstic, Director of PUE Pancevo Dragan Grujicic, Director of PUE from Nova Varos, Suzana Suljagic, Director of PUE in Knic, Milosav Pantovic, and the signing ceremony was attended by State Secretary at the Serbian Ministry of Energy, Development and the Environmental Protection Stana Bozovic.

The Japanese ambassador said that the acquisition of new and more efficient equipment will help make the living environment of these Serbian municipalities cleaner and healthier, adding that this donation will further strengthen the friendship between Serbia and Japan.

Kuroki pointed out that Japan is supporting other environmental projects currently underway in Serbia as well, such as the flue gas desulphurization project for Nikola Tesla thermal power plant and projects in the field of energy efficiency.

Thanking the Japanese ambassador for the assistance Serbia received from his country, Bozovic said that Japan has donated to Serbia more than EUR 460 million in total and over EUR 10 million for various social projects in the country since 1999.
