Vucic: Ministries will not belong to parties

BELGRADE - Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) leader Aleksandar Vucic said on Tuesday that the coalition he is leading has a sufficient number of competent people he can form the best possible government with.

In an interview with Deutsche welle, Vucic said that he will be striving to prevent ministries from functioning like entities that belong to parties.

Asked which parties he could reach an agreement with on a coalition that will be capable of implementing the new programme, Vucic said that having an agreement with the people, as well as not lying to them, is the most important thing.

He said that the new government's programme will be based on legal and economic reforms that are vital to Serbia, despite the fact that some of them are also requested by the EU.

Vucic announced that 13 laws will be adopted to implement action plans in the fields of the rule of law and the judiciary.

We will also have to think about fiscal consolidation, which will be very painful, and conduct a reform of the administration, Vucic said, adding that boosting industrial growth will be one of the most significant tasks.

Part of the programme for the period between June 1, 2014 and June 1, 2016 is under preparation, including incentive packages that will have to be the best in the region to enable Serbia to attract foreign investors, the future Serbian prime minister explained.

Responding to a comment that the SNS' results in the recent early parliamentary elections outdid those of Slobodan Milosevic in the zenith of his power in the early 1990s, Vucic said that he is afraid of the responsibility that he has been given through the votes won, but that he is serious and committed to work.
