Belgrade hosts exhibition by New York School of Visual Arts

BELGRADE - The exhibition dubbed “Underground Images: School of Visual Arts Subway Posters, 1947 to the Present”, which was created for display in New York's huge subway, was opened at the Cultural Center of Belgrade on Thursday.

The visitors will have a unique opportunity to see a total of 58 works by April 24 offering a glimpse of a long and rich history of the acclaimed American school of design, illustration and photography.

The exhibition features works of 29 artists, including renowned names such as Ivan Chermayeff, Milton Glaser, Mirko Ilic and George Tscherny.

The exhibition was curated by SVA Executive Vice President Anthony P. Rhodes, who has served as creative director for the posters since 2007.

The SVA was established in 1947, and 35, 000 former students from over 100 countries make this school one of the most influential artistic communities in the world.

The exhibition is a post festum event of the international conference Designer: Author or Universal Soldier.

The organizers of the exhibition are NGO Blokovi, the Cultural Center of Belgrade and the Faculty of Media and Communications with support of Belgrade Fortress and Mirko Ilic Corp. from New York.
