Industrialists warn against energy measure delay

The head of Greece’s industrialists sent a warning signal on Friday regarding the critical state of Greek industry, which he said will be further aggravated as long as the implementation of measures to reduce energy costs are delayed.

Dimitris Daskalopoulos, president of the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV), stated that “the measures the government has announced for the reduction of energy costs in industrial production constitute much-needed oxygen for our industries. Their cancellation would entail serious consequences: It would deal a major blow to the country’s already damaged production, increase unemployment and undermine any growth prospects the Greek economy may have.” He was speaking at a meeting of the ministerial committee on industrial policy.

Some of the main measures proposed by the government to reduce energy costs have reportedly stalled due to European Commission opposition.
