Romania to Repay EU for Misspent Agriculture Cash

Romania will have to return money to the European Commission for having breached community regulations on the use of European cash allotted under the Common Agricultural Policy, CAP.

A total of around 315 million euro is being reclaimed from 11 member states, while Romania will have to hand back 4.24 million euro, according to a report by the Commission.

This money must be returned to the EU budget because of non-compliance with EU rules or inadequate control procedures on agricultural expenditure.

In Romania’s case, the correction was because of non-definition of certain Good Agricultural and Environment Conditions, controls partially performed and deficiencies in the sanctioning system.

The most significant correction was applied to France, which must return nearly 250 million euro.
