Ilic:Motorway through western Serbia to be completed by 2017

BELGRADE - The works on the construction of the motorway through Western Serbia are being conducted at the planned tempo and the works on certain sections should be completed in 2016, while the entire motorway should be finished by the end of 2017, Serbian Minister of Construction and Urbanism Velimir Ilic told Tanjug on Friday.

Ilic said that the construction of the motorway from Belgrade to the border with Montenegro could be completed even before the said deadline in case the procurement procedure for certain permits is accelerated, which in some instances currently takes as many as seven months.

The motorway from Belgrade to the border with Montenegro via western Serbia is also known as Corridor 11 as it was supposed to be a part of the transport section from Romania to the Montenegrin Port of Bar in southern Adriatic.

The works on Corridor 11 are being conducted at a slightly faster pace than previously agreed, he underscored.

The construction of the motorway section from Ljig to Preljina built by AzVirt from Azerbaijan is making good progress and it should be completed in six months, Ilic said.

The minister noted that the government adopted the concession act for the construction of the Obrenovac-Bridge on the Sava River via Surcin and Surcin loop and the Preljina-Pozega section to the total value of around EUR 700 million and that two contractors have been chosen as their bids were qualified as most favourable and the talks with them entered the final stage.
