Nikolic, Davenport discuss new govt, dialogue with Pristina

BELGRADE - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic informed Head of the EU Delegation Michael Davenport on Friday that the constitution of the new government would be discussed with all leaders of parties represented in the parliament and that the responsibilities for personnel and other solutions would be fully transferred to the new prime minister.

According to the release issued by the president's press service, Nikolic informed Davenport that the talks with Pristina need to be set in a new institutional framework which the Serbian parliament should adopt because new circumstances occurred in the meantime as the army of Kosovo was formed and it signed an agreement with Albania, which is unacceptable.

Davenport underscored that the Serbia-EU relations are excellent and that they assumed fresh quality and intensity after the date was set on January 21 for initiation of accession talks, states the release.

After the constitution of the new Serbian government, all strategies and action plans for implementation of reforms need to be realised, Davenport said.

The head of the EU delegation qualified as very positive the fact that two rounds of the dialogue with Pristina were held during the government's technical mandate.

Nikolic underscored that the citizens' support to European integration has not been brought into question and that over 50 percent of citizens support European integration but they also expect tangible improvements, adding that the government opened chapters according to the regular dynamics during its technical mandate.
