Pastor: Coalition agreement to be signed next week

BELGRADE - President of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM) Istvan Pastor said Thursday that a coalition agreement concerning the creation of Serbia’s new government will be signed with the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) in the middle of next week.

In a statement to the press following a consultation meeting with Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic concerning the setting up of the country’s executive, Pator said that he told the president that the SVM is willing to take part in the ruling majority.

“It is good for the party, the Hungarian community, and for Serbia for the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians to be part of the ruling majority,” said Pastor.

Asked by reporters whether the coalition with the SNS is the beginning of the destruction of the current government in Vojvodina, Pastor said that SVM only builds partnerships and does not want to be taking down anybody.

At the moment, I do not see any new element that should make one think seriously about early provincial elections in Vojvodina, Pastor said.

He added that the situation in Vojvodina is quite delicate and a lot depends on what will be taking place within the Democratic Party, the center party in the northern Serbian province's ruling coalition.
