Tadic: NDS-led coalition will not enter government with SPS

BELGRADE - The New Democratic Party (NDS)-led coalition will not enter a new government with the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), said the party leader, Boris Tadic, after consultations with Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic on Thursday.

Our electoral list will not join the government in which the SPS would take part. That government would not be efficient, as the SPS does not have proper candidates for high-level positions that could ensure Serbia's development, and government officials from their ranks have so far not demonstrated the willingness to put the reforms in place, Tadic told reporters after the meeting between representatives of this coalition and President Nikolic.

In order to solve the problems facing Serbia, it would not suffice only to have ideas how to do that, but also a good team and able officials spearheading the government's policy, the NDS leader said.

"I think that the government with the SPS would not be efficient, as that party does not have human resources for all the portfolios it aspires to take. Up to this point, not a single SPS-run department has been successful," Tadic said.

Asked whether he is ready to cooperate with the Democratic Party (DS), Tadic said that he is willing to cooperate with all, with the DS and ruling parties, in order to turn Serbia into a decent and successful society.

The coalition partners of the NDS, leaders of the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina and Together for Serbia, Nenad Canak and Dusan Petrovic respectively, dismissed media speculations that they are holding separate talks with the Progressives about joining the government.
