Parliament constituted

BELGRADE - Setting up working bodies and standing delegations to international parliamentary institutions marked the end of the constitution of the Serbian National Assembly on Thursday, and a new session is about to start to discuss amendments to the laws on government and ministries, whose passage is a prerequisite for forming a new government.

On Wednesday, MPs elected Maja Gojkovic as parliament speaker.

The parliament also elected six deputy speakers- Veroljub Arsic and Igor Becic from the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), Gordana Comic from the Democratic Party (DS), Ninoslav Stojadinovic from the New Democratic Party (NDS), Vladimir Marinkovic from the Social Democratic Party of Serbia (SDPS) and Konstantin Arsenovic from the Party of United Pensioners of Serbia (PUPS).

The next Serbian government should have 16 ministries, according to the draft law on ministries.

Amendments to the law on government propose that the prime minister can set up councils for economic development, public bodies and services.
