Zagreb Mayor Sues Croat Prime Minister

A year after local elections in Croatia, Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandic on Wednesday filed a civil suit against Zoran Milanovic, the Croatian Prime Minister and leader of the Social Democratic Party.

In the election campaign, Milanovic accused Bandic of clientelism and corruption. Bandic declined to reveal the suit's details. Earlier, media reported that the mayor, a former Social Democratic Party member, was seeking around 40,000 euro in damages.

Commenting on the suit on April 23, Milanovic said he lived on his salary and asked what Bandic lived on, considering that he had "sued half of the people in Zagreb.

"If he has paid only court fees for each of those unfortunate people, which he has had to do, the question is where he got the money from," the Prime Minister wondered.
