Senic to chair European Integration Committee

BELGRADE - The Serbian parliament European Integration Committee appointed Aleksandar Senic of the opposition New Democratic Party (NDS) as the committee chair.

In a statement for reporters following the appointment, Senic said that EU accession is Serbia's strategic goal and underscored that the Serbian parliament European Integration Committee will give its full contribution to the realisation of the goal.

According to him, the Committee will not be divided into position and opposition and everyone will work on Serbia's prompt EU membership.

Senic said that he expects to see all government bodies cooperating well in order to realise the national goal.

Laslo Varga of the new ruling coalition Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM) was appointed vice chair of the Serbian parliament European Integration Committee.

In a statement for reporters, Varga said that the Committee would have the key role in coordination of affairs of the National Assembly in the process of Serbia's European integration.

Varga explained that the committee would define the parliament's stands on each and every negotiating chapter with the EU and that the Serbian government will cooperate with the committee when defining its negotiating positions.
