Farina: Security situation in Kosovo improved

PRISTINA- KFOR Commander General Salvatore Farina said on Wednesday the security situation in Kosovo had improved.

He met at the KFOR headquarters in Pristina with the mayors of four northern Kosovo municipalities where Serbs are the majority to discuss the general situation in Kosovo, particularly focusing on the situation in the north of the territory.

They stressed that cooperation and transparency in the relations between the four municipalities and KFOR were very important, KFOR stated.

Commenting on the current security situation in Kosovo Farina underscored the front line role of the Kosovo police and EULEX as the next in line to respond to threats.

KFOR will continue to provide a safe environment in northern Kosovo, as well as in other parts of Kosovo, Farina remarked, adding that KFOR would be ready to intervene after EULEX should there be need for that.

The general security situation in Kosovo has improved after the Brussels agreement between Belgrade and Pristina, he noted.

KFOR is constantly working to maintain a safe environment and freedom of movement for everyone in Kosovo, he pointed out.

The KFOR commander thanked the four mayors on the constant efforts invested by their municipalities.
He called on them to do even more in the future in order to improve stability through dialogue and cooperation.
