Greece launches 'coalition' to boost ICT sector


The Greek government and members of the country’s ICT industry were due to sign a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday to help young people and potential entrepreneurs.

“The nine Greek Coalition partners commit to developing an Action Plan within the next nine months and to include more partners in the near future (ICT businesses, universities, SMEs associations, public and private employment agencies, etc.),” the Commission said in a statement.

Greece is the sixth EU country to formally launch a national coalition and the signing was to take place as part of the “e-Skills for Jobs” campaign the Commission launched in Athens on Tuesday.

"There is constant digital job growth in Europe despite the crisis. I am glad Greece joins our vision for offering all Europeans the digital skills they need,” said European Commission vice president Neelie Kroes.

“The Greek Coalition is an inspiring model for other countries that should also move forward with their own coalitions."
