Bulgarians Splash Out in Greece in May

Bulgarian tourists spent nearly 50 million euro in Greece over the holidays between May 1 and 6, estimates of tourist agencies show.

According to police data, 260,000 Bulgarians crossed the border to Greece over that period and at least 85,000 of them spent more than one night in Greece.

The Bulgarian tourists spent an average of 400-500 euro on hotels, snacks, restaurant meals and souvenirs. Those who only visited Greece for a day, without staying in a hotel, spend an average of 50 euro.

Tourist agencies estimate that if trips by Bulgarians to Turkey, Macedonia and Serbia are included, the sum spent by Bulgarians on vacations in the region, outside their own country, is well over 100 million euro.
