Madlenianum takes part in 'Meet in Beijing' arts festival

BELGRADE - Ensemble of the Belgrade-based Madlenianum Opera and Theatre has set off for China with the ballet "Feast of Love" (Praznik ljubavi), directed and choreographed by Aleksandar Ilic, to take part in the 14th "Meet in Beijing" arts festival.

Madlenianum previously performed in China with this ballet in 2012, when it won the best play award at the Shanghai festival. Before that, the Belgrade theater took part in the 10th "Meet in Beijing" arts festival with the ballet "Orpheus in the Underworld", choreographed by Krunislav Simic, which was a great success.

As part of the festival, plays are also staged in other cities, so "Feast of Love" will be given in five cities with six performances in total, Madlenianum said in a release.

The ballet is based on the novel "Capsella Bursa Pastoris" by Teodora Sujic, the music was chosen and composed by Ivica Stjepanovic and costumes made by Ida Ignjatovic.

"Meet in Beijing" was established in Beijing in 2000. This arts festival is organized by the Chinese ministry of culture, the Beijing city government and Chinese national broadcaster.
