Kosovo assembly dissolved

PRIŠTINA -- A majority of Kosovo assembly members on Wednesday voted in favor of dissolving it, clearing the ground for snap parliamentary elections, Tanjug reported.

Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, said that "parliament was not functional, so it needed to be dissolved," RTK2 reported.

Petar Miletić from the Independent Liberal Party (SLS) said at the session that Serbs were dissatisfied with the work "and non-functionality" of the Kosovo parliament and backed its dissolution, Tanjug said.

The news agency further quoted him as saying that "Serb MPs from the SLS were dissatisfied with the failure to resolve the issue relating to the reserved seats for MPs of minority communities, because of which they were boycotting the parliament's work."

Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga stated on Thursday that the early parliamentary elections in Kosovo will be held on June 8.
