Turkey interested in stronger cooperation with Serbia

BELGRADE - The Serbian-Turkish Business Forum gathering over 200 participants opened in Belgrade on Monday and the organisers say that the textile, food and construction industry offer the biggest room for cooperation.

The forum gathers 26 Turkish businessmen and 150-200 businessmen from Serbia.

Secretary General of the Serbia International Trade Association (SITA) Nedzad Kacapor told reporters that only 30-40 Turkish businessmen in the trade sector are operating in Serbia at the moment and they are not direct investors. The reason for this is, as he said, insufficient knowledge of the Serbian market.

The aim of the forums SITA has been organising for five years in a row is the set up more closer ties between Serbian and Turkish businessmen, exchange experience and discuss the possibilities for trade and joint investments, especially in Serbia, Kacapor said.

Representative of the Association of Aegean and Western Mediterranean Industrialists and Businessmen (ESIDEF) Selim Doganata told Tanjug that the Association gathers members from all economy sectors and added that representatives of the construction and textile industry are primarily present in Belgrade today.

Doganata underscored that Serbia is getting closer to the EU which is why it is a very attractive destination for investments.

The Serbia-Turkey Business Forum was organised by SITA and the Belgrade Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign and Internal Trade and Telecommunications.
