Remains of 19 Serbs identified in Zagreb

BELGRADE - The identification of remains of 19 Serb victims killed during the armed conflicts in the territory of the former Yugoslavia from 1991 to 1995 in Croatia was carried out at the Department of Forensic Medicine and Criminalistics of the School of Medicine, University of Zagreb, in the presence of family members.

The remains were excavated in Dvor, Zadar, Sibenik, Masicka Sagovina and other locations, the Serbian government's Commission on Missing Persons stated on Tuesday.

The remains were identified by means of a DNA analysis, and the victims will be buried as their families require, the statement reads.

The remains of a total of 1,035 Serb victims killed in the Croatian military and police operations Flash and Storm were exhumed from the registered tombs in the territory of Croatia from 2001 to 2013. The remains of 643 victims have been identified and delivered to the families so far.

During the 1991-1995 civil war in Croatia, around 7,000 Serbs were killed or went missing, and light has not been shed on the fate of around 1,900 of them.
