Defence minister confers with Angolan ambassador

BELGRADE - Serbian Defence Minister Bratislav Gasic and Angolan Ambassador in Serbia Toko Diakenga Serao agreed on Wednesday that continuation and intensification of cooperation in the defence sector serves the interests of both countries.

Angola is one of Serbia's strategic partners in Africa and Serbia especially appreciates the principled support of Angola on the Kosovo-Metohija issue, the Defence Ministry released.

The Serbian defence minister expressed gratitude to the ambassador of Angola for his personal contribution to the development of bilateral cooperation and underscored the importance of the military-economic, military-medical and military-educational cooperation.

This year, 35 more cadets from Angola will begin their graduate studies at the Belgrade Military Academy and 32 officers and cadets from the country are currently attending classes at the Academy.

”We are exceptionally delighted with the fact that the Serbian Military Academy has been recognised in Angola as a partner in the education of members of Angolan Armed Forces. Although the good relations between the two countries date back to the past periods, it is important that we have managed to preserve trust and continued to nurture strong bilateral ties between Serbia and Angola,” Gasic said.

In keeping with the dynamics of the cooperation development, the procedure of opening representative offices in the defence sector in Luanda and Belgrade which will serve as an additional impulse to the development of bilateral military cooperation.

The Serbian government and the Defence Ministry support the presentation of Serbian companies in the construction of infrastructure projects in Angola, Gasic said.
