House of Culture opens in downtown Belgrade

BELGRADE - The House of Culture as the temporary palace in which the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes was declared in 1918, opened on Friday before numerous audience.

The House of Culture of the Faculty of Media and Communications officially opened by the exhibition of Tanjug's unreleased photos entitled 'Terazije Square through Tanjug lens' taken in the period from 1920s to 1990s and a number of exhibits authored by the students and professors of the faculty.

Dean of the Faculty of Media and Communications Nada Popovic-Perisic pointed to the importance of the building which was restored to its original purpose aimed at presentation of cultural programmes.

The numerous visitors also comprised former minister of foreign affairs Ivan Mrkic, historian Predrag Markovic, writer Mirjana Bobic Mojsilovic, writer and publisher Vladislav Bajac, Zoran Hamovic and others.

The new room for culture opened by the exhibition entitled 'Lopte' (Balls) by Milos Tomic and his works which presented Serbia at the Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art in 2014.

Students of digital arts in t he class of professor Dorijan Kolundzija presented their interactive installations.

The building in downtown Belgrade also known as the Krsmanovic house, changed its purposes over the years and it was declared as the Monument of culture of exceptional importance in 1964 due to its beautiful design and important historical events that took place there.

The House of Culture will be open to visitors on May 17 as of 6 p.m., within the Museum Night festival.
