Lightning Struck the Audience of a Horse Race in Shumen

A lightning struck the audience of a horse race near Bulgaria's town of Shumen.

According to Bulgarian-language media the lightning injured five people. 

One young woman is reportedly in a very serious condition, while the other four people are conscious.

All five are taken to the local hospital.

Later it transpired that the injured were four - two men and two women, hiding under a tree from the sudden downpour.

The four were taken to the hospital and later released as the most serious injury was three broken toes of one of the women.

Witnesses told the Darik national radio that when the lightning struck, the people flew aside.

"I feel thunderstruck," joked one of the women upon leaving the hospital. "It was strange."
