Pope calls on faithful to pray for flood victims

ROME -- Roman Catholic Pope Francis has called on the worshipers gathered at St. Peter's Square in Rome to join him in prayer for the flood victims in the Balkans.

Mentioning the floods in the region during his weekly address, he also told the the families of the victims that they had his support.

"I entrust the victims of these calamities to the Lord and I pray for those who are living through hours of anguish and trouble," he told some 50,000 people gathered at the square.

AFP is reporting that the flooding in the Balkans is considered to be worst in 120 years.

The pope called on the faithful "to pray for our brothers and sisters who are suffering from the serious floods that have devastated large parts of the Balkans, especially in Serbia and Bosnia."
