Army sets up pontoon bridge in Kraljevo municipality

KRALJEVO - The West Morava River and torrential rivers and streams in the Kraljevo region, central Serbia, have receded back into their beds, leaving behind more than one thousand destroyed houses, and the flooding waters have washed away or damaged 12 bridges, whose replacement with pontoon constructions is underway.

While the citizens are removing destroyed furnishings and mud from their houses, the emergency headquarters are setting up pontoon bridges to enable connection with cut-off villages, utilizing machinery of public enterprises and great help by the army.

Two pontoon bridges have already been set up on the slopes of the Gledic mountains in central Serbia.

The commander of Serbia’s Second Army Brigade, General Marinko Pavlovic, said that heavy launcher bridges are being set up in this part of the Kraljevo municipality to enable heavy vehicles to get through.

“We are launching two heavy bridges here at the Gledic River today, where we will connect around 1,000 households on the right side of the river. This way we will connect the village to the rest of the world,” said General Pavlovic.

Threee days ago, torrential streams on the slopes of the Gledic mountains washed away a number of bridges and caused damage to many roads, and at one point some 3,500 households were completely cut off in several villages.
