The Danube Continues to Rise, Floods a Fishing Village Near Ruse

The level of the Bulgarian stretch of the Danube river continues to rise and   flooded a fishing village near Ruse. 

According to the Agency for Exploration and Maintenance of the Danube, the level at Ruse rose by half a meter overnight and passed the 7-meter mark. 

It is expected that within the next couple of days it will reach 8 meters, when another wave of high water will reach Ruse.

The head of the agency, Georgi Georgiev, told Bulgarian-language media, that he does not expect the river to overflow, but even if it does, it will not pose threat to the populated areas. 

Constant monitoring of the water levels continues, as the floods in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina continue. 

The authorities in the two flooded countries report of at least 44 dead. Major power plants in Serbia along the Sava river, are threatened by the rising water levels and might have to shut down.
