Manchester United have confirmed that Louis van Gaal will be their new manager in the next season.

The 62-year-old Dutchman will take over the club after the World Cup, where he is coaching the Netherlands, Manchester United wrote on their official website.

Club legend Ryan Giggs, who announced his retirement, will be appointed assistant manager. He briefly led the team after David Moyes was sacked in April.

Van Gaal has coached major European clubs like Ajax, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich, with whom he won the Bundesliga, Eredivisie, La Liga, Champions League, and a number of other cups.

He will be tasked with bringing back the glory of the Manchester club, which fell to its lowest position in decades after the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, finishing 7th in the Premierleague.
