Simonovic:Most difficult situation on Belgrade-Bar rail line

BELGRADE - Serbian Railways CEO Dragoljub Simonovic has voiced expectation on Monday that rail traffic in Serbia will get back to normal very soon, expect on a stretch of the Belgrade Bar rail line.

Simonovic explained that flash floods dislocated a 1.5 km stretch of tracks by as many as five meters, while a mudslide blocked access to the railway near the village of Gradac.

He told reporters at Belgrade Fair that traffic should soon be restored toward the village of Vreoci, in the direction of the Nikola Tesla thermal power plant, where power generating units should be delivered.

"Except in Vojvodina, around 90 percent of railway transport services in Serbia were suspended due to flooding, but on Sunday evening, traffic was restored along the route toward Thessaloniki and Dimitrovgrad," Simonovic said.

Around 35 international trains are stranded in the territory of Serbia at the moment.
