Norway to donate EUR 2 million of aid to Serbia

BELGRADE – The Norwegian government has decided to give Serbia a EUR 2 million aid to help deal with the consequences of the catastrophic flooding, Norwegian Ambassador in Belgrade Nils Ragnar Kamsvag has said.

The Norwegian government has decided to donate EUR 2 million for construction projects facing Serbia after the flooding, Kamsvag told Tanjug at a reception organized yesterday to mark 200 years since the adoption of Norway’s Constitution.

Kamsvag pointed out that the engagement of the government in Oslo will not end there as it will continue to discuss sending further aid in the future.

He pointed out that aid is also coming from the Norwegian Red Cross’ Emergency Response Fund to support relief operations in Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The Norwegian Red Cross has begun collecting money to help the population hit by the floods in Serbia and BiH and has so far raised EUR 40,000, said Ambassador Kamsvag.

He pointed out that Norway-Serbia twin cities’ friendship associations in the two countries are actively discussing best ways of helping the relief efforts.

Serbia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Kori Udovicki expressed gratitude to the Norwegian government for what she called munificent aid.
