Vucic to visit Berlin on June 11 at Merkel's invitation

BELGRADE - Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic has accepted the invitation of German Chancellor Angela Merkel to visit Berlin on June 11.

The visit will be the first in many years by a Serbian prime minister at the invitation of a German chancellor, Vucic said at a government session, adding that former Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic was the last to pay such a visit.

Earlier on Friday, Vucic had a phone conversation with Merkel, who told him that the German nation will not leave Serbia without assistance or support.

Merkel extended her condolences to the Serbian people and offered help on behalf of her country, Vucic said.

Before travelling to Berlin, Vucic will be on a previously scheduled visit to Vienna on June 4 or 5 after it has been postponed in the wake of the catastrophic floods in Serbia.
