More Than 20 Quakes Recorded in Aegean Sea, Saturday

More than 20 earthquakes were recorded in the Aegean Sea on May 24, prior to the one that shook Bulgaria Saturday afternoon.

The quakes epicenter was about 440 km from Bulgaria's capital Sofia with a magnitude between 5.7 and 6.0 on the Richter scale.

The Seismological Institute of the University of Athens has registered the first earthquake in the Aegean Sea on May 24 a minute after midnight.

The quakes were weak with a magnitude of 2.5 on the Richter scale and occurred in an interval of about 20 minutes.

The strongest earthquake which shook parts of Bulgaria was registered 27 kilometers off the Greek island Samothrace at 11:25 local time and was of magnitude 6.4 on the Richter scale.

In the following minutes, there were two aftershocks of 4.4 and 4.6 on a Richter scale.

In the next 20 minutes after that, there were six more earthquakes with a magnitude of between 3.4 and 3.9 on the Richter scale.
