The result around 6-7 percent obtained by the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) in the European Parliament elections is good, proving once again that the Union continues to be the credible representative of the Hungarian ethnics' community of Romania, UDMR President Hunor Kelemen said after the poll closing on Sunday evening.

'We have obtained a good result, according to our expectations. We see it as a success, but we must of course wait for the vote counting. According to our data, we got between 6 and 7 percent,' Kelemen declared.

He added that the redistribution might bring UDMR three seats in the European Parliament, allowing it to preserve a fair representation level in Brussels.

Kelemen thanked the Hungarian ethnics for attending the poll and choosing to vote for UDMR.

'We think that the Hungarian community of Romania showed once again that UDMR is its representative, that it still is a credible representative, not just in Romania, in the Parliament and domestic institutions, but also in the European Parliament,' he asserted.

Kelemen pointed out that UDMR had a 'correct, balanced campaign,' debating above all Romania's and its Hungarian community's role within the European Union, and the European expectations. AGERPRES
