National Liberal Party (PNL) Chairman Crin Antonescu thanked all the voters in the European Parliament elections after the poll closed on Sunday evening; he had a special mention for his Liberal fellows, who fought a difficult campaign, with PNL targeted by various diversions, but getting stronger out of it.

'My thanks go to all my Liberal colleagues, starting with the campaign head Mr. Marian Petrache, and to all my colleagues, to the thousands of Liberals involved in this campaign. It was a special campaign, which strengthened the party. It was a campaign carried out in the toughest conditions; I won't insist on that right now, they are well-known. PNL was — like never before, I'd say — the target of all the attacks and diversions. Nevertheless, PNL had a fair campaign, a serious campaign, one more politicized and more motivated than ever,' Antonescu said at PNL's headquarters after the release of exit poll results; he mentioned that he will comment the results later on Sunday night or Monday morning.

Antonescu also called the Liberal representatives in the polling station to fulfil their duties, 'with maximum seriousness, maximum vigilance, and maximum correctness, until the votes are counted, the reports are drafted, and the electoral process itself is completed in all its components.'

He added that the Liberal would communicate their evaluation of these elections after the announcement of the official results.

The Liberal leader also thanked the Romanians who used their voting right, 'a fundamental right for democracy.' He nevertheless qualified the voter turnout as 'not a massive one,' below the European average. AGERPRES
