The Romanian capital's Mayor Sorin Oprescu said after casting a ballot in Sunday's elections for the European Parliament that he had voted for the Romanians to take the place they should have in Europe.

'I've voted so that we might take the place we should have in Europe and the people who go there to speak of Romania as they should, so that we might make ourselves heard too, to say how Romanians are, since we have no qualms at all. We are as bright and as handsome as they are. It is for this that I voted, having the certainty that the people who represent us there will indeed do what they should do', Oprescu said after casting the ballot.

The mayor stressed no serious election-related incidents had been recorded in Bucharest on Sunday.

'They were insignificant as compared to how they used to be before, but you know that when one is emotional, dimensions are always big, but the next days will really settle things and we'll see if there were serious incidents. As far as I am aware, I do not think there were serious incidents', he said.AGERPRES
