2014EP PNL's Antonescu: I voted the best team, the best programme

National leader of the opposition National Liberal Party (PNL) Crin Antonescu on Sunday said he voted the best team, urging Romanians to turn out and vote, as their voting is 'an elementary civic action.'

'I have voted the best team and the best programme, and the most important thing was that I turned out to vote. The European Parliament will be an even stronger institution that is more important to the lives of all of us from now on, and I believe casting ballots is an elementary civic action,' Antonescu said after casting his ballot.

He added that although he expects a low turnout of Romanians in the European elections, his hopes is that it will not be 'unusually low.'

'So far, we cannot make any estimate of the turnout. We can compare with the 2009 elections at the same hours. All assessments indicate the turnout will be low. I still hope it will not be unusually low. That is why I have tried to convey this message regarding the turnout irrespective of options,' said Antonescu.

He explained that it is important for Romanians to vote for their representatives in the European Parliament because 'all the 32 people to represent Romanians based on the election outcome will take part on major decision making processes that are vital to the life of each Romanian.'

He said he will be waiting for the outcome of the May 25 with a mixed feeling of calmness and excitement, anticipating that May 25 will be a very long day.
