Torrents gone, rocks remained

Radalj, a village of the Mali Zvornik Municipality has remained under thousands of cubic meters of granite stone that this place is known for, after disastrous flooding that affected Serbia.

The Radalj, a small river that often dries out in summer, turned into a torrent that brought to the village massive pieces of stones, some even of several tons. Local people say that there were floods in the past, but never in their years and homes granite from a quarry several kilometers away.
 

Dragica Milic, her two children and husband Dragan survived real hell. She had a vegetable garden that is now a hill of granite pebbles.
 

- For three days stones was falling on us and we could not go out, not even to the road. My daughter Milica is (11) and son Ivan is (13). We had three nights and three days of hell. We saw municipality officials passing by our home on several occasions but nobody asked us if we needed bread or water – Dragica says wiping her tears.
 

- We are helping one another in removing mud and stones from yards- Milos Milic says. He is from Radaljska Banja and there is no more a road that led to his house. He claims that this would have not happened happened, had people not built bridges around their houses.
 

Milorad Milic (79) does not remember any such disaster and says he never thought that water can move such big rocks.
 

- Water was carrying them as if they were of foam – he says.
 

Dragan Jokic says that the warer reached the first floor of his house.
