A Turkish soldier was taken by suspected members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır on May 27, security sources have said.

A masked group set up a roadblock on the highway linking the districts of Lice and Hani in Diyarbakır, checking the identity cards of drivers.

The group, which was reportedly carrying Molotov cocktails and guns, detained a specialist sergeant who was driving in one of the cars.

Security forces have launched a search and rescue operation for the soldier.
