Fado diva Mariza takes part in flood relief campaign

BELGRADE -- Serbian PM Aleksandar Vučić on Tuesday welcomed Portuguese fado diva Mariza in Belgrade, and discussed ways to help Serbia after the catastrophic floods.

The singer, who is in Serbia as a guest of the EXIT festival and artist Slobodan Trkulja, will also be a guest of honor in a song to be recorded to help the flood victims in Serbia.

Vučić said he was very grateful that Mariza had the energy, will and desire to visit the flooded areas in the Serb Republic (RS) in Bosnia and in Serbia, while the singer said she was honored to be in Belgrade and have an opportunity to help the people of Serbia.

The prime minister then stated he was confident the fado star will be able to see how much Serbians appreciate and love her work, and respect everything she has done for our country, and that he was "particularly happy that Mariza signed a CD for his daughter."

Asked whether he made any gesture in return, Vučić said his gift was "special handmade Serbian chocolate, the book 'Amazing Serbia', - and a DVD with the footage of the floods."

He also revealed that plans were underway to organize a large charity concert and added he hoped Mariza would be a guest there as well, in order to raise as much money as possible for those affected by the disaster.

Mariza said that she was honored to be in Belgrade, but that it was also hard to explain the feelings she had at this difficult moment for Serbia, noting it was "a great honor to be invited to speak with the prime minister."
