Forty teams to evaluate flood damage

BELGRADE - Forty teams comprising 200 local and international experts will be established in Serbia to evaluate the damage caused by the floods, representatives of relevant institutions and the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure agreed at a meeting on Tuesday.

Expert teams, in coordination with the Office for reconstruction and aid for the flooded regions, will assist local self-governments in conducting the damage estimate and verify the data submitted by municipalities, Serbian ministry released.

The ministry team, led by state secretary Dejan Trifunovic, presented the data on the damage to critical infrastructure, along with the damage estimates submitted to date by local self-governments.

The meeting with the representatives of relevant institutions which will take part in reducing the impact of the flooding was also attended by experts of the European Union and the World Bank, states the release.

Some very rough preliminary estimates put the damage in Serbia at around EUR 1.5-2 billion, reads a statement by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
