AGERPRES special correspondent Catalina Matei reports: Romanian liberals' joining the European People's Party (EPP) group in the European Parliament was voted unanimously on Wednesday in Brussels, on the occasion of the meeting that established the group.

'It was a unanimous vote for us to be accepted into the European People's Party group in the EP. Former president Joseph Daul said nice and very warm words and we are glad to be a part of a political group that is totally compatible with our objectives, with our political programme and with what we want to do at European level as PNL. We are also part of the largest and most influential group in the legislature,' liberal MEP Cristian Busoi told Romanian journalists.

The joining of the Romanian liberal delegation to the European People Party's group is a step that should have been done earlier, said the leader of the PNL delegation in the EP, Adina Valean.

'I think it is an extremely important step that we should have done earlier, but the domestic political context was unfavorable. But now is a great opportunity for joining the Right in Romania and for a very strong delegation of Romania in the EPP," Adina Valean said.

For now, the co-chairmanship of the Romanian MEP delegation to the EPP will be held by Adina Valean and Teodor Stolojan.

PDL MEP Marian-Jean Marinescu will candidate for a position of Vice President of the EPP group, with a decision in this sense to be taken on Wednesday. AGERPRES
